Susan’S Oriental Kitchen

About us Tucked away in the heart of Yeovil, Susan’s Oriental Kitchen at 9 Union St, BA20 1PQ is a flavorful escape for anyone craving authentic Filipino cuisine with a twist of comfort and warmth. Whether you're a longtime lover of Asian food or just beginning your culinary journey into Southeast Asian flavors, this place brings something uniquely satisfying to the table.
As someone who’s had their fair share of lumpia rolls and sisig, walking into Susan’s Oriental Kitchen felt like being welcomed into someone’s home-cozy, unfussy, and full of bold aromas that hit you right at the door. The setup’s simple, but the food does all the talking. It's the kind of place you go to when you want something real-and you want it fast. Whether you’re dining in, grabbing takeaway, or getting it delivered to your doorstep, the service is genuinely friendly and refreshingly down-to-earth.
Let’s talk food-because that’s where Susan’s shines brightest.
The Buffalo Chicken Wings are a must-start: golden, spicy, and tender with just the right amount of heat. But it’s the Halo Halo that stays with you-literally and emotionally. This iconic Filipino dessert is a layered, colorful explosion of sweetened beans, jellies, fruits, shaved ice, and a scoop of ube ice cream on top. It’s not just dessert, it’s a whole experience.
Craving something savory and rich? Their Dinuguan, a traditional pork blood stew, is unapologetically authentic and packed with deep umami notes that are hard to find outside the Philippines. Pair it with a serving of brown rice or the lighter pansit (Filipino noodles), and you’ve got yourself a full meal that feels both indulgent and nourishing.
Other standouts include the Filipino-style Spaghetti-slightly sweet with hot dog slices, just how it's served at every Filipino birthday party ever. The Crispy Chicken Lollipop is a fun, kid-friendly option with crunch and flavor. And don’t even get me started on the Susan’s Lechon Special-crispy skin, succulent meat, and served with a dipping sauce that hits all the right notes.
Whether you’re out solo on a lunch break or dining in with family for dinner, Susan’s covers the spectrum. It's popular for lunch because of the quick service and small plate options that make sampling a breeze. But come dinner time, those craving heartier dishes turn to meals like Roast Pork, Humba (braised pork belly), or Beef Short Ribs Soup, each one simmered to tender perfection.
Their Bilao sets (group platters) are perfect for gatherings or anyone who just can’t decide. Plus, there’s Longsilog-a breakfast plate of sweet Filipino sausage, garlic rice, and egg that locals swear by as the best way to start the day.
It’s hard to find Filipino restaurants in the UK that stay this close to the roots. While others lean fusion, Susan’s Oriental Kitchen stays true to tradition. From the soy-vinegar balance in the adobo-based dishes to the complex spice layering in Pork Bicol Express and Chicken Curry, each dish here feels carefully constructed rather than mass-produced.
You’ll also notice the balance between comfort and convenience. They offer kerbside pickup, delivery, and takeaway, making it super easy to grab a quick bite without compromising quality. The vibe inside is relaxed and unpretentious-a little loud at lunch, quieter in the evenings, but always friendly.
What sets Susan’s apart from chains or generic pan-Asian spots is its commitment to community. You’ll often see Filipino regulars, students missing home, or curious locals who’ve fallen in love with the rich, vibrant flavors. It’s also great for solo diners, with no judgment if you show up just for a bowl of Beef Pares and a coffee.
Speaking of which, yes-they serve coffee, and it’s legit. No-frills, strong, and served hot-just the way it should be after a satisfying meal.
Whether you’re there for a quick crispy pata fix or want to explore something new like Binagoongan (fermented shrimp paste pork dish), Susan’s Oriental Kitchen manages to stay both consistent and surprising. A neighborhood gem that does Filipino food right-without shortcuts.

“Ate Susan is very accommodating and considerate when we arrived late for lunch but still allows us to dine knowing we traveled from a far. Apart from nicely welcoming us, the food is truly taste of Pinoy. Masarap, Maraming Servings and Quality tlga!!!”
“what a delightful birthday treat at this hidden gem of a filipino restaurant! from the moment we stepped in, we were enveloped in the warmth of filipino hospitality. the soft lighting and cheerful chatter created such a cosy atmosphere, it felt like being welcomed into a family home. the real magic happened when we chatted with our lovely server about my birthday. to our surprise and delight, they offered to prepare two special dishes not on the menu - dinuguan and pork sinigang. these off-menu treasures truly made the evening unforgettable. the dinuguan was rich and savoury, a comforting bowl that felt like a warm hug. and oh, the pork sinigang! its perfect balance of sour and savoury flavours danced on our taste buds. it was clear that every dish was crafted with love and generations of culinary wisdom. we left with full bellies and even fuller hearts. this restaurant doesn't just serve food; it serves up a slice of filipino culture and hospitality. what a perfect way to celebrate my birthday - surrounded by the aromas, flavours, and warmth of my mother's birthplace. we'll be back soon, craving not just the food, but the wonderful, homey experience.”
“Amazing food and service, was so good i had to go twice in a week! The lechon kawali (ceispy pork belly) was defo my fav but everything was incredible”
“Went with a friend on a Friday night. It was tough choosing which appetisers to go for as they all sounded so good. The pork belly was mouth-watering, and the calamari was delicious. The fried chicken was some of the best I've had, better than Jollibee. We went for the spicy option, and it was hot. My main was the Bistek Tagalog, and that was great as well. My friend had lechon kawali, and he loved it. Finished with a halo-halo, my first ever one, and it was a delight. We had great service, and all the team were friendly. I look forward to going again and trying more things.”
“Friendly owners and authentic filipino food! This was a hidden gem on our vacation and we enjoyed home cooked food that reminded me of my mums cooking. Thank you for the hospitality”
